Subject: the truth of college financial aid
Ever wonder how colleges manage to offer so much financial aid?
Check the two form letters below.
---------------------------------------
A letter sent to one student:
Dear Henry,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive
the Howard Honorary Scholarship for Academic Excellence, in the
amount of $5000.
We hope that this prestigious award will make it possible to attend
and we look forward to seeing you on campus in the fall.
----------------------------------------
Now a letter sent to ten students:
Dear Howard,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as an
incoming student at our university. You should be hearing from
financial aid very soon.
In the meantime, please forward a deposit of $500 to secure your
place in the 1996 freshman class.
Once again, congratulations upon acceptance into our university.
We look forward to seeing you on campus in the fall.
